            <div type="translation" xml:lang="DE" resp="Klaus Hallof"><ab xmlns="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><lb n="1"/>Unter dem Archon Euthios (283/2); die 〚Antigonis〛 hatte die dritte<lb n="2"/>Prytanie inne, für die Nausimenes S.d. Nausikydes aus dem Demos Cholargos<hi rend="sup">VII</hi><lb n="3"/>Sekretär war; im Boiëdromion am achtzehnten, dem<lb n="4"/>neunzehnten (Tag) der Prytanie; Haupt-Volksversammlung;<lb n="5"/>von den Vorsitzenden leitete die Abstimmung Hieromnemon S.d. Teisimachos<lb n="6"/>aus (dem Demos) Koile und seine Mitvorsitzenden. Beschluss von Rat und<lb n="7"/>Volk; Nikeratos S.d. Phileas aus (dem Demos) Kephale stellte den Antrag:<lb n="8"/>Da Philippides stets bei jeder Gelegenheit<lb n="9"/>sein Wohlwollen gegenüber dem Volk gezeigt hat und<lb n="10"/>er nach seiner Abreise zu König Lysimachos das, was er früher<lb n="11"/>mit dem König verhandelt hatte, dem Volk überbrachte als Geschenk,<lb n="12"/>nämlich zehntausend attische Medimnen Weizen, die<lb n="13"/>verteilt wurden an alle Athener unter dem Archon Euktemon (299/8);<lb n="14"/>er ferner verhandelt hatte über eine Segelstange und einen Mast, damit<lb n="15"/>diese der Göttin übergeben würden für die Panathenäen zusammen mit dem Peplos, die<lb n="16"/>(dann auch tatsächlich) überbracht wurden unter dem Archon Euktemon (299/8); und als<lb n="17"/>der König Lysimachos gewonnen hatte die Schlacht bei Ipsos (301)<lb n="18"/>gegen Antigonos und Demetrios, er die in dem<lb n="19"/>Kampf gefallenen Bürger bestatten ließ auf seine<lb n="20"/>eigenen Kosten, aber alle, die Kriegsgefangene geworden waren,<lb n="21"/>dem König angezeigt und ihnen die Befreiung bewirkt hat,<lb n="22"/>wobei er für diejenigen, die (weiter) Soldaten bleiben wollten, organisierte hat,<lb n="23"/>dass sie in Kommandos unterkamen, denjenigen aber,<lb n="24"/>die lieber ziehen wollten, Kleidung und Reisegeld gab aus eigenen<lb n="25"/>Mitteln und sie wegziehen ließ, wohin ein jeder wollte, insgesamt<lb n="26"/>mehr als dreihundert; und er ferner darum bat, dass<lb n="27"/>auch alle Bürger freigelassen würden, die man vorfand in<lb n="28"/>Asien in der Haft unter Demetrios und Antigonos;<lb n="29"/>und er auch den ihm jeweils begegnenden Athenern stets<lb n="30"/>Dienste erweist, wie ihn ein jeder darum bittet;<lb n="31"/>und als das Volk die Freiheit erlangte, er stets<lb n="32"/>in Wort und Tat eintrat für das, was im Interesse der<lb n="33"/>Rettung der Stadt ist, und den König ersucht hat, zu<lb n="34"/>helfen mit Geld und Getreide, damit das Volk frei<lb n="35"/>bleibe und den Piräus und die Festungen zurück-<lb n="36"/>erhielte so schnell wie möglich; und über dies alles<lb n="37"/>oftmals der König ihm Zeugnis abgelegt hat gegenüber den<lb n="38"/>zu ihm geschickten Gesandten der Athener; und er,<lb n="39"/>gewählt zum Festspielleiter unter dem Archon Isaios (284/3), auf das<lb n="40"/>Volk bereitwillig eingegangen ist und auf eigene Kosten; und<lb n="41"/>er auch die traditionellen Opfer den Göttern geopfert hat für das Volk, und die<lb n="42"/>- - - gegeben hat allen Athenern bei alle den<lb n="43"/>Festspielen; und ein zusätzliches Festspiel eingerichtet hat für<lb n="44"/>Demeter und Kore als erster zum Gedenken an des Volkes<lb n="45"/>Freiheit; und er Sorge trug auch für die anderen Festspiele<lb n="46"/>und Opfer für die Stadt; und nachdem er für all dies aus seinen<lb n="47"/>eigenen Mitteln viel Geld aufgewendet hatte, er Rechenschaft<lb n="48"/>ablegte gemäß den Gesetzen und nichts jemals unternahm, was im<lb n="49"/>Widerspruch zu der Demokratie stand, in Wort und<lb n="50"/>Tat; – Damit nun allen offenkundig sei, dass das Volk<lb n="51"/>Dank abzustatten weiß den Wohltätern, der den<lb n="52"/>Wohltaten angemessen ist, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließen<lb n="53"/>der Rat: dass die Vorsitzenden, die erlost sein werden zum Vorsitz<lb n="54"/>für die Volksversammlung, sobald die gesetzlich vorgeschriebenen Tage<lb n="55"/>für ein Gesuch verstrichen sind, hierüber verhandeln lassen in der<lb n="56"/>nächsten Volksversammlung gemäß dem Gesetz, und die Beschlussvorlage<lb n="57"/>des Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat<lb n="58"/>es für gut befindet, dass man belobige Philippides S.d. Philokles aus dem Demos Kephale<lb n="59"/>wegen seiner Leistung und seines Wohlwollens, das er stets für<lb n="60"/>das Volk der Athener hegt, und ihn bekränze mit<lb n="61"/>goldenem Kranz gemäß dem Gesetz, und verkündige den<lb n="62"/>Kranz an den Großen Dionysien bei der Tragödien-<lb n="63"/>Aufführung; dass man auch sein Standbild aus Bronze in dem Theater<lb n="64"/>aufstelle, und dass ihm auch sein solle Speisung im Prytaneion und<lb n="65"/>dem jeweils ältesten seiner Nachkommen, und ein Ehrensitz bei alle<lb n="66"/>den Festspielen, die die Stadt ausrichtet; dass für die Anfertigung<lb n="67"/>des Kranzes und die Verkündigung Sorge tragen<lb n="68"/>die Finanzverwalter; dass diesen Beschluss<lb n="69"/>der Sekretär, der während der Prytanie amtiert, aufzeichne auf eine<lb n="70"/>steinerne Stele und aufstelle bei dem Tempel des Dionysos; dass für<lb n="71"/>die Aufzeichnung und die Stele die Finanzverwalter<lb n="72"/>20 Drachmen begleichen aus dem Dekret-Fonds<lb n="73"/>des Volkes.<lb/><lb/><hi rend="italic">im Kranz:</hi><lb n="74"/>Das Volk</ab></div><div type="translation" xml:lang="EN" resp="Sean G. Principal Assembly.<lb n="5"/>Of the presiding committee Hieromnemon son of Teisimachos of Koile<lb n="6"/>was putting to the vote and his fellow presiding committee members. The Council<lb n="7"/>and People decided. Nikeratos son of Phileas of Kephale proposed:<lb n="8"/>since Philippides has continued at every opportunity<lb n="9"/>to demonstrate his good will for the People, and<lb n="10"/>on going abroad to king Lysimachos first<lb n="11"/>after discussions with the king he delivered to the People a gift<lb n="12"/>of 10,000 Attic medimnoi of wheat which was<lb n="13"/>distributed to all Athenians in the archonship of Euktemon;<lb n="14"/>and also discussed the yard and the mast, that<lb n="15"/>they might be given to the goddess for the robe at the Panathenaia, which<lb n="16"/>were delivered in the archonship of Euktemon; and when king<lb n="17"/>Lysimachos won the battle at Ipsos<lb n="18"/>against Antigonos and Demetrios, those citizens who<lb n="19"/>perished in the crisis he buried at his<lb n="20"/>own expense, while he alerted the king to<lb n="21"/>those who became prisoners, and after gaining their release,<lb n="22"/>those wishing to remain in service he arranged that<lb n="23"/>they be assigned to regiments, and those preferring<lb n="24"/>to leave he supplied with clothes and travelling money<lb n="25"/>from his own resources and sent them where each wished,<lb n="26"/>more than three hundred in all; and he pleaded for the<lb n="27"/>release of as many of those citizens who were captured in<lb n="28"/>Asia and held prisoner by Demetrios and Antigonos;<lb n="29"/>and to those Athenians who happen to be at the court at any time he continues<lb n="30"/>to be useful in whatever way each requests of him;<lb n="31"/>and since the People have recovered their freedom, he has continued<lb n="32"/>to say and to do what is in the interests of the<lb n="33"/>preservation of the city, including requesting the king to help<lb n="34"/>with money and grain, so that the People may remain<lb n="35"/>free and recover the Piraeus and the<lb n="36"/>forts as quickly as possible, and concerning all these matters<lb n="37"/>the king has often testified on his behalf to Athenian<lb n="38"/>ambassadors sent to him; and when he was elected<lb n="39"/>competition director in the archonship of Isaios he complied<lb n="40"/>with the People willingly from his own resources, and he<lb n="41"/>sacrificed to the gods the ancestral sacrifices on behalf of the People, and<lb n="42"/>he gave to all Athenians the - - - for all the<lb n="43"/>competitions, and he was the first to institute an additional competition<lb n="44"/>to Demeter and Kore as a memorial to the [freedom]<lb n="45"/>of the People; and he managed the other competitions and<lb n="46"/>sacrifices on behalf of the city, and on all these things he spent<lb n="47"/>much money from his own resources and rendered accounts<lb n="48"/>according to the laws, and he has never done anything contrary to<lb n="49"/>democracy either in word or<lb n="50"/>deed; so, therefore, that it might be clear to all that the People understands<lb n="51"/>how to give thanks to its benefactors to the value<lb n="52"/>of the benefactions they perform, for good fortune, the Council<lb n="53"/>shall decide: that the presiding committee who are allotted to preside<lb n="54"/>in the People, when the days for the request set by the law<lb n="55"/>have passed, shall put the matter on the agenda for the<lb n="56"/>next Assembly according to the law, and submit the opinion<lb n="57"/>of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the<lb n="58"/>Council to praise Philippides son of Philokles of Kephale<lb n="59"/>for the excellence and good will which he continues to have for<lb n="60"/>the Athenian People and to crown him with a<lb n="61"/>gold crown according to the law and to announce the<lb n="62"/>crown at the tragedy competition of the Great Dionysia,<lb n="63"/>and to stand a bronze statue of him in the theatre;<lb n="64"/>and he shall have dining privileges in the city hall, as will<lb n="65"/>the eldest of his descendants at the time, and a front row seat at all<lb n="66"/>competitions that the city puts on; and the board of<lb n="67"/>administrators shall manage the making of the crown and<lb n="68"/>the announcement; and the prytany secretary shall<lb n="69"/>inscribe this decree on a stone stele<lb n="70"/>and stand it by the temple of Dionysos; and for<lb n="71"/>inscribing the stele the board of administrators shall<lb n="72"/>allocate 20 drachmas from the People’s fund<lb n="73"/>for expenditure on decrees.<lb/><lb/><hi rend="italic">in crown</hi>:<lb n="74"/>The People</ab></div>
